If you’re looking to fly domestically in India with your pet in India, here’s the guide with all you need to know. First of all, you’ll need to fly Air India, as that’s the airline most experienced with pets, and it has the most straightforward pet carriage policy, and the employees know what to do.

We’ll go through everything you need to know, including what you’ll need, and how to prepare.

First of all, Air India’s pet carriage policy states that:

“Small inoffensive domestic pets such as dogs, cats and birds”

Can be carried. So once you’re confident that your pet is under this category, you’ll need its health and rabies vaccination certificate, which can be acquired from a vet. A line in the policy also states that it is at the captain of the aircraft, meaning that he may or may not want the pet on the flight, so really the last-minute decision is up to him/her. It also states that the pet, if accepted by Air India will not be liable to injury, death or loss of the pet.

What you’ll need:

  • Rabies and Health certificates
  • Kennel Cage (Ventilated) (size must not exceed 18″ x 18″ x 12″)
  • Pee Mat
  • Muzzle (For bigger dogs)

The dog must be at least 8 weeks old and only 2 pets will be carried per flight.

You’ll also need to find a hotel and a destination to travel to.
