Train your dog to respond to a clicker. Using a step-by-step training technique is commonly referred to as “loading” the clicker.
Clicker = Reward
Clicker training is not a replacement for treats. The click tells the dog that what he/she has done will earn he/she a treat.
Start in a Calm Setting
Make sure your dog is hungry. Have your dog’s favourite treats on hand.
Introduce…
Click the clicker, then give your dog a treat. Repeat the cycle 5-10 times.
Test
To test your success, click when your dog is not paying attention to you. If he/she looks at you, your done!
Click For Sit
Say the word your dog sits to. In most cases, it’s ‘sit’. The moment your dog sits, click the clicker. Treat your dog. Repeat till just the click makes him sit.
