Jaiveer Talwar When you get a dog, there are some parasites that you should be aware of. If your dog has even of parasite on it, the parasites will multiply to the point where your dog may need surgery.
There are two main types of parasites; internal parasite which affect the gastrointestinal system, the heart and lungs and, external parasites which affect the skin and ears.
1. Fleas
Fleas are one of the most common parasites in dogs. The flea’s strong legs are designed to jump great distances, from one host to another. This makes fleas contagious.
Fleas can cause a lot of problems for your dog, including flea allergic dermatitis, anemia, and tapeworm infection. Major flea infestations can take months to eradicate, and often with veterinary assistance. Instead of curing it, it’s better just to prevent it.
2. Ticks
Ticks are arthropods that feed on their host’s blood including humans, dogs and cats.
Ticks are well-known carriers of some serious diseases like, Lyme Disease, Ehrlichia, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
